* Is homebirth safe?
Yes! All studies of homebirth with CPMs support that homebirth is safe. The most recent study is detailed in the prestigious British Medical Journal. However, homebirth is not for everyone. Therefore, we offer doula services for those who prefer a hospital setting.
* Do you have midwives in your practice that are Licensed to practice Midwifery?
This is a very good question and one that many people do not think to ask. If a person is practicing midwifery without a license, this can have a very negative effect on your birth. Yes! Mary Anne and Becca are licensed to practice midwifery in the state of Tennessee as a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife). In addition to thier midwifery licenses Mary Anne and Becca are also licensed in this state as Registered Nurses. Mary Anne also hold a license as a emergency medical technician
* What happens if a medical problem arises during pregnancy that is considered high risk for a homebirth?
We have several doctors of consult that work with us and depending on where you live, we would consult with that particular doctor in your area.
* Isn’t having a baby at home messy?
No. We clean up any mess that occurs and do laundry associated with the birth and take out any trash. Usually one cannot tell there was a birth except for the beautiful baby present.
* What are the most common reasons for transfer to a hospital?
Failure to progress due to exhaustion and the second is to induce labor if the mother’s water had broken and labor has not started after a long waiting period.
* What happens if there is an emergency during labor?
Most of the time we do not have a dire emergency. We are monitoring Mom and baby throughout the process at regular intervals and watch for any signs of impending risk. We carry all necessary emergency equipment to assist us in correcting these impending risks.
* What is the first step if I am interested in your services?
